Once appointed as the Broadcast Journalism Editor, I gave a great deal of thought as to what moves to make as Head. What I was given was CTV News - a student broadcast based on the standard 5 o'clock news model. Unfortunately, the show quality had been declining over the years, and public opinion was largely condemning.

Then, it hit me. What is the most important difference between CNN and Charger Television News? Answer (in my opinion): the audience. CNN tries to appeal to as many audience members as possible from any demographic. But, our job is much simpler. Our audience is simply the student body of Oxford High School. Therefore, shouldn't we be basing our show model off of the audience?

An audience of high school students from ages 14-18 are clearly not watching the 5 o'clock news. So why are we trying to make an amateur version of that? Let us instead create a new show with the audience in mind. Thus, the Snooze was born.

The Snooze is professional, yet relaxed all at once. With casual clothing replacing the blazer, and two walls littered with posters instead of a spotty green screen, The Snooze presents a quick news segment followed by a feature, and a game of some kind. And, that's your episode. It's nothing fancy, but that's the elegance. It doesn't try too hard. Steve Jobs once said "Simplicity is the finest sophistication."

And, so, my idea came to life. The Snooze has seen incredible support and student body approval. These two designs I created display The Snooze mission proudly, I believe. To the left is our social media profile picture, inspired by the back wall of our set, and the bottom displays our logo, displaying a subtle alarm clock in the first "o". Creating not only a show, but also the entire philosophy has led to the success and standard of quality that we are proud to claim as members of The Snooze staff. Video examples can be found underneath the "Broadcast" tab.
